PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Return is the word defined as “Starting from the beginning” in Mandarin. The further definition can be thought as the process of everything reverts to the nature from the complication. The images of real and virtual construct this word, return; and this word can also reflect the relationship between the inner and outer environments.

This whole project starts from the relationship between individual and environment, further brings out the topics regarding to inner/outer and virtual/real. We expect this architecture can fit into the local life, soften the tough and closed origin, and further create the communication with the outer surroundings. We designs to make the each piece in this library such as books, computers, electric wires, and the equipments becomes part of this architecture instead of just a place to store.

Sensation: Aim to make the habitants to react with this building and melt into the local life style. We therefore start from changing the sensation of living in this architecture.
Touch: Adopt the skills and materials used commonly in local to construct the architecture which can make it domestic friendly.

Vision: To induct the light into this library which can be varied by the different ways we display the books. The readers can therefore be embraced by the nature without feeling the building existing.

Smell: The well designed exits at the specific location can refresh this space by the air compressing. The air floating can make the other panel to connect the outer and inner.

Space:

1. The architecture itself, constructing materials and the touching feelings are the solid entities; however, the phenomena and the interior effect the habitants’ emotions which are seen as the virtual entity. Interestingly, the ideas about books which we consider as the solid channel to gain the knowledge and the internet which is considered as virtual one can exactly reflect our designing concept. The readers can be surrounded by books, lights, and the air from the nature when walking on the slow ramp. People can experience the changing from the outside world as they are in fact in this library.

2. The flexibility of the space can increase the commercial benefits by setting the charged internet and coffee seats. It can also create the income to support the library’s operation for itself.

Flexibility: Partly preserved area can provide the extra function to expand the utilities in the future.
The door board of the main exit can be used as the sun shade while opened.

The partitions in the computer lab, workshop, and nursery room can be adjusted to contain different amount of people.
The outside stage and footsteps can be used for show and sports.

To separate the areas by book shelves, desks, and cabinets instead of actual walls can also expand the flexibilities.

Continuingly Development:

Materials: We plan to use the local constructing skills and materials for fitting to the domestic characteristics. On the other hand, some of the constructions may be for temporary in case the habitants need to expand or make any changes on this building in the future, they can easily reset the materials and re-used them for the other purposes.
Water Collecting: This library contains a rain reservoir and the pipes on the roof can conduct the rain into the reservoir. The water can be used for cleaning and washing purposes.

Solar Power: The solar power panels over the roof can transfer the energy to the electricity use in this library.
Air Floating: The exit above this building can help to refresh the air by compressing.

Materials:

The framework: Woods, H steels, and metal pieces to construct the framework and book shelves.

Exterior: Metal wave boards, transparent wave boards and woods to make the exterior and the exit.
