PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

FFHC

This project is an experience of hope: a light-scape for the vast and open field of the African continent. This Football for Hope Center is tapped by means of intelligent architectural economy: create a basic shelter designed to enclose the facility for learning, health care, and athletics whose main structure is a momentous forest comprised by an expandable, light-weight post and beam system.

Besides supporting the beams and roof system, the columns also have the capacity to gather solar energy to illuminate the facility. A hard roof covers major building programs and fuses the function of rainwater catchments and management as part of the overall structural system. Water can be funneled through the pipe columns and irrigated to the underground reservoir.

Although there is no fixed seating for the grandstand, the platform itself allows chairs to be arranged on top. This seating flexibility provides other opportunities for using the grandstand (i.e. adapting it into an extra classroom or additional health care facility). Two standardized shipping containers provided by Greenfield will be utilized as storage, one each for the athletic and health care programs.

The culmination of this project is the smart fence. The core structure is a standardized chain-link system that provides the football pitch elevations an enclosure. The very colorful and graphic formation of the weaving fabric mesh is an economic strategy to enhance the spatial experience of light and shadow. The construction technology is designed as a ritualistic event to involve the participation of the township residents and community. This heightened sensation is established as an identity for the bounce of youth football culture and lines of a new horizon for hope.
