PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
During my design of this project, I was motivated by the concept of architecture with out architect. Taking this concept as a base of conducting the project, I started to use the same materials which are used by slum people in their buildings (ex.: folded plate in the roofs and the walls). In the same time, I concerned to raise up the general level of slum people by developing some of their building technique; like having air movement through the roof to reduce the temperature. The roof design was developed by putting girders on the rafters (that will generate space for ventilation), and covering the construction with ceiling wood boards from inside the building.
In addition, I applied the LEED requirements in the project. That was achieved as follows:
1- Having natural ventilation by placing the windows in the direction which allows indoor maximum airflow.
2- Having passive air ventilation in the roof
3- Building orientation has the long axis crossing the wind direction.
4- No windows in east and west direction.
5- Having shade by verandahs covers the south elevation.
6- Using light weight wall by using folded plate on stud.
About the site, I decided to keep the old construction as they are. For example, I kept the hall, because it means one of the places which form essential entities because they used to see and interact with activities inside it. In the future, these old constructions will be removed gradually and be replaced with higher level constructions, by which we will achieve the aim of raising up GRADUALLY the level of slum people.
