Open architectre challange- Sidarec, Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya IDEA The main factor, which we took into consideration thinking of our project, was how to limit heat. We both decided that good solution would be long, curvy roof, which provides big, shade space. Our inspiration, to the geometry of roof, was characteristic to Kenya`s landscape tree. Besides, we tried to fit in in scenery of Kibera so roof also reffers to shape of existing buildings in surroundings. MATERIALS We used materials that seems to be easy available in Kibera: bricks and corrugated plate. INTERIOR We divieded our buidling into two parts – quite area (library, mediateque, tranind center) and louad area (children day care). In space which is between two areas are pay-phones. In one of the walls of children day care we put gates, which after opening makes nig space for messes and meetings of community. We put a presure on inhabitant`s ingration. To encourage. To encourage people to spend time in our building we designed stairs all around the mediateque. Besides in the front wall are colourful niches, which can be used as benches or place to exhibit some local art. In the facades of library are also blackboards for children`s paintings.
