PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This house is set in the beautiful Kogelberg bio sphere Reserve in the Cape and is about the experiential and the ecological. Constructed on a natural platform on a dune, the natural vegetation was protected during the building process and only that in the footprint of the building was disturbed. The alien vegetation was cut and the dune re-established with indigenous fynbos vegetation. The house is designed with an internal courtyard to provide a fun inside/outside beach holiday living experience. The main living spaces have sea views. The outside terrace is wind protected and looks out over False Bay.The house is designed to give shade and provide a place of wind shelter in quite a harch environment. The walls are a mud brick, the floors are a natural slate and the ceilings are reed according to the Cape's traditional vernacular. A solar panel is used to heat water. The roof terrace is for checking if theres a wave,enjoying the beautiful surrounding mountain views or star gazing.
