PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
An offensive tactic defines a series of movements within the site, drawing in the local landscape, infrastructure, and program. Adobe bricks are extracted to create a maximum-size football pitch containing multiple training pitches within it, practical for training sessions, youth games, and tournaments. The bricks are used to construct benches and walls which delineate a series of open and shaded areas, and changing rooms, toilet and shower facilities, and information/consulting rooms.
Gum Poles or Bamboo are spanned and woven with reeds to create ceilings and shaded zones.
A Living Machine treats black and grey water using biological purifying methods, creates an aesthetic and educational feature, and introduces technology which can be replicated for the region. A low-tech, solar cooking pot is another furnishing for cooking up a celebration after the winning goal.
The project relies most heavily on local labour and traditional building methods with a contemporary architectural interpretation, and contributes a significant amount of the budget to the community.
The design also sets the stage for easy expansion. Additional lines/walls can be extruded as a docking station for the future community health centre, encouraging a holistic and integrated approach to health care.
