PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
EcoHubs will be local centres of alternative technology and transition culture. These spaces will spread energy and ecological literacy at a local level.
The EcoHubs will be centrally located in town squares in off-the-grid units (possibly made from old shipping containers) with green energy producing devices and waste management incorporated into the design. They will be fitted with information graphics which explain new sustainable technologies.
We intend to make the first EcoHub in Brixton central square in front of Lambeth Town Hall (South London, UK). EcoHubs need to be visible, accessible and intriguing physical spaces. EcoLabs has launched this project hoping to attract architects who will help us design and then build a low cost, open-source community hub for Transition Town Brixton. We see these spaces eventually becoming the building blocks of new sustainable communities.
