PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Sportable is comprised of 4 units that are sized in a way that they will fit on a standard semi-truck trailer for transport. Once the individual pieces are put together, they embrace the field creating a sense of place. The building provides area for the library/check-out, restrooms and storage areas. The main space of the building opens up to the playing field and is enclosed in glass on the field side. The configuration of the building also allows for seating for spectators. There are solar panels located on the roof to provide electricity for the facility, which also provides lighting for night-play. There is a vegetative roof and scrim under the seating area. Water is collected from the vegetative roof and is used in the restroom facility. The shading structure is streched across diagonally and provides shade for spectators as well as players. On the street entry side there is a graffiti wall. This wall is painted white after each move and local residents are allowed to create their own works of art on the wall. This allows the Sportable to become part of the surrounding landscape as well as giving some ownership to the local residents.
