The Parker family moved into their new home just before Christmas. Driving by the Parker House you can now see Karen working in the yard or her children playing basketball in the driveway. They are still waiting for a few final touches is the form of furniture but have made the house a home just the same.

Wood framing is a very simple, cost effective construction method, wood & nails. Wood is very forgivable, and thus mistakes are often easily fixed, and covered up with finishes. Rare is the occasion that the work is considered artful.
Such an opportunity arose when I met Amos and his crew of framers from Amish country in southern Pennsylvania. Most of these guys were at least 10 years younger than me, but had been framing for years. The work was immaculate, and executed with ease. I was in awe of their ingenuity, craftsmanship and motivation during their week down here in Biloxi. They may have been young, some still teenagers, but they were the best framing crew I have seen in a long time.
They set the trusses by hand and nailed the sheathing with very little fear on a steep roof on home that was elevated for flood mitigation.
When it was time for them to go, the house was “blacked-in”. In little over 2 weeks of work, the house was elevated and framed.
Much to the work of Craig Snow and his crew here in Biloxi, and the two volunteer crews who built much of the super structure of the Parker House.
The Parker Residence is our first construction project of the Biloxi Model Home Program. During the construction documentation I was approached by Craig Snow from Hope Force Intl, a faith based volunteer relief organization working in east Biloxi, with an offer to volunteer build the Parker Home. Craig was in contact with the guys from SPS NEW ENGLAND, a highway & bridge builder from the Boston area, who wanted to bring down 40 men and women from their company to help build the frame. I contracted the foundation out to a local contractor, this way the volunteer work would be best optimized.
However due to the rain the first few weeks of the month of January, we were unable to be out of the ground with our foundation by the time SPS New England arrived on the Mississippi Coast.
SPS Superintendent Al and his scout crew hit the ground running like true professionals. They had the come down ahead of the full team to make sure everything was in place; unfortunately we were not where they were expecting us to be by that time. They worked from sun up to sundown everyday in the rain and the cold to make this project happen. When the full crew arrived they turned up the production and with in a few days the foundation was out of the ground, and by February 2 SPS had built all the exterior walls of the house.
We are very grateful for Craig & Hope Force, and all the Boston guys from SPS and friends for the hard work, sacrifice, care and effort given to get this project off on the right foot.

The Biloxi Model Home Program was contacted by a local contractor requesting more information on the Parker House. He had driven by the home several times falling in love with the design. We put him in contact with Bret Zamore to talk about building another Blox House as his personal residence.
