PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
One of the biggest environmental challenges, now and in the future, is improving existing houses. The Now House™ project is a collaboration of designers, architects, engineers, homeowners and sustainable building experts who propose to turn a 60-year-old WWII house into a net zero energy home — one that produces as much energy as it uses. In the process, we expect to reduce the homeowner’s energy bill to zero and cut green house gas (GHG) emissions by six tonnes annually. With about a million similar wartime houses across the country, this is a simple idea that is scaleable. Now House™ is one of twelve teams from across Canada chosen by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation for the construction phase of their Net Zero Energy Healthy House competition.
