PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This is not a serious effort, per se, but it occurred to me that someone might find it useful as a temporary shelter concept or an above-group cold frame for plantings or storage. My young boys asked me in the winter of 2006 to build them a spaceship treehouse. Having already aquired the Shelter Systems frame back in 1999 for a novel icefishing house, the idea of teaching them about building a treefort and learning a bit about non-traditional building seemed like a fun project. (The safety railings-eventually added- are not shown in these images, so please be mindful of your local saftey, engineering and code issues) Hopefully, this will benefit someone in some way, and I welcome any collaboration to that extent. One Idea that struck me this spring was that this makes a great cold frame to start plants, and a rainwater catch system could make this a permanent terrarium in the trees. Additional seasonal modification is also needed for snow load and sub-zero temperatures.
