Looking for a way in...

Submitted by marisomma on Wed, 2008-05-07 14:03.

Hola!

I am a desinger in SF working primarily on restaurant and lighting design. I am very interested in finding a way to participate in Architecture for Humanity! Currently, I am working with Habitat for Humanity in building local homes and volunteering about 16 hours/month. I would like to become a part of the design process and was wondering if AH offers that as well.

A bit about me: from Argentina (fluent in Castellano, sufficient in Catalan), UC Berkeley Grad, very into model making, woodshop, materials, Interior Finishes, Sustainable products!... so much more!

anyway, i will use this blog to post not only about sustainability but my approach and appreciation of simple, well constructed modern design. i am most interested in design at the small scale, the beauty of the everyday. i paint minimalist paintings, design furniture, utensils, clothing, interior pieces and buildings.

in studio i am learning about what is gained through subtraction.

sustainability is a catch phrase right now in school. we speak of passive heating and cooling, high tech materiality and reuse.

however, i cannot help but think that the best resolution in sustainable design is simpleness. use what you need, edit what you do not.
