Introduction

This community centre will provide the opportunity for the locals of Lusaka (Zambia), to create a new, healthy, and prosperous environment, which encourages the use of existing basic natural and human resources.

An integration of football and agriculture, is used to place emphasis on the education of HIV / AIDS, nutrition, and dietary information. A meeting point for people, who will share entertainment, food, and knowledge.

The aim of this centre is to restore dignity, pride, and a sense of independence back into the community.

Identity

  • Team symbol and logo
  • Graphic identity
  • Team uniforms
  • Local interpretation

Architecture

Facility

The central point of the structure is a source of power and water pump container. It provides energy for all facilities, including a good distribution of water for agriculture. The plus shaped structure integrates four separate activities, which deal with football, aids education, agriculture training, and nutrition education.

The spread out structure will behave during the day as a commercial indoor /outdoor facility, providing all necessary resources in order to have a healthy nice working environment.

From the central energy tower, there is a dual aqua-duck system (ala the Romans) that uses gravity to redistribute water throughout vegetable gardens, maize crops, and football fields. The fountains at the delta of the water-duck provides a vision of hope, and also emphasizes the use of an existing natural resource.

The idea is to integrate an educational active centre, which will provide an environment in which the community can play, learn, and create a new income for their families.

This is a flexible place. You can move the shadows depending from the sun. It can be for the market or the activities in open air. On the top of the roof there is an aqueduct that brings the water around the centre. Construction will be possible with only local tradesman and architectural materials.

Energy

The tower provides water from the under-ground. Close to it there are two closed rooms like classes and toilets. All around there are going to be a football field, a practice area for sports and open air activities, a garden to practice cultivation, and an area that can be used like a market.

The energy sourced from solar panels powers the pump, which elevates water twenty meters above ground level into a plastic container. Gravity pulls the water down through a kapler turbine creating energy that is redistributed throughout the centre.

Surrounding Maize Fields

The centre is surrounded by hectares of maize fields. Workers from the centre are provided with the necessary education and tools in order for them to farm the land. A steady flow of water is given from the centre of the town to irrigate the crops. The green surrounding of the centre, will also help create a healthy clean growth environment.

Social Programme

Within the slideshow you can find a childrens book that explains the social life in the center. People can go there to play football, to dance, to buy food from the market, to work in a field or to learn how to do it, also they can attend educational classes about nutrition, health and AIDS.

This is a meeting point for people. Here they can spend a nice day together learning and playing.

Victor will distribute this book to the people from the center so they will be informed about all the activities they can find there and in the last page they can also suggest new things to do.

Sustainability Programme

Nshima United is a financially self-sustaining organization, by implementing the following systems:

Financial Sustainability

  • the agricultural education provided allows locals to become farmers on the surrounding maize fields,
  • the income from the harvests of the surrounding maize fields becomes the main source of revenue for the centre,
  • and additional revenue is the market space where individuals can rent market spaces to sell their goods and services.

Resource Sustainability

  • The centre contains a self-sufficient energy system that pumps water from the underground water reservoir, creating electricity and fresh running water.
